Possible Break In Recent Convenience Store Robberies

Colorado Springs Police have arrested two men suspected of participating in at least one convenience store robbery and possibly having roles in as many as 8 others within the past week.

The suspects, whose names have not been released, were caught late Tuesday night as the result of a police pursuit that followed an investigation of an attempted robbery at the Loaf 'N Jug at 2505 S. Chelton Road.  One  the suspects was caught and bit by a police dog and sustained minor injuries from the bite.

The attempted robbery at the Loaf 'N Jug was the ninth robbery or attempted robbery by suspects with similar descriptions since Friday.  In each case, three men described as black or Hispanic entered a convenience store and demanded money from the clerk.  The robbers' faces were covered, usually by bandanas.

Minutes prior to the attempted robbery of the Loaf 'N Jug, robbers hit the Diamond Shamrock at 2455 Arlington Drive.  It was the second time robbers of the same description hit that particular Diamond Shamrock.  The Loaf 'N Jug at 4770 Drennan Road was also hit twice in the past week by suspects with similar descriptions.

Colorado Springs Police are now investigating whether all the convenience store robberies from the past week are related.  "The possibility exists," said police spokesman Sergeant Steve Noblitt.  "Our investigators will look at all aspects of the robberies that've happened in the past and see if these guys could be responsible for these robberies as well."

Anyone with informatioin that can assist Colorado Springs Police in their investigation into recent robberies of convenience stores is urged to call 719-444-7000.
