SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The Rockies are being pounded by a powerful snowstorm on one of the busiest travel days of the year.
The heavy snow and high winds are bringing white-out conditions to parts of the region, and closing roads. The storm earlier buried Seattle in snow and shut down highways in Idaho, Wyoming and Utah. It's expected to push a strong cold front across New Mexico. And in northern Arizona, drivers are being warned to prepare for gusty winds and reduced visibility in blowing snow.
A blizzard warning is in effect for the Vail, Aspen and Telluride areas in Colorado, with six to 12 inches of snow and winds gusting up to 60 miles an hour in the forecast.
The storm left frigid temperatures behind in northern Utah, with little traffic on the roads after a night of more than 100 traffic collisions.
