Prescription drug disposal day planned

The Drug Enforcement Administration will coordinate a one-day Prescription Drug Take Back Initiative this week. This is a statewide event and will provide an opportunity for the public to surrender pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications to law enforcement for destruction.

The event will operate from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on April 30. The DEA will provide the cardboard drug collection boxes and will be responsible to pick-up/receive collected drugs for disposal and final destruction. The Colorado Springs Police Department will secure the collected drugs until the DEA has recovered them. Tablets, capsules, and all other solid dosage units will be collected. Intravenous solutions, injectables, syringes and illicit narcotics will not be accepted.

Three locations have been set for collection:

  • 705 S. Nevada Ave. at the Police Operations Center
  • 400 Security Blvd. at Security Fire Station #1
  • 3255 Akers Drive at the County Department of Transporation Office
