In a statement on Friday President Obama said he had "bigger fish to fry" and wouldn't go after Colorado for legalizing recreational marijuana use.
There is still confusion as to how state laws that allow commercial pot sales will work with federal laws that still consider marijuana illegal. Despite the lingering questions, local marijuana shops and advocates said they are taking Obama's position as a signal to move ahead and plan for selling recreational pot.
"It also allows us as a business perspective to look forward and say lets go ahead and move forward responsibly," explained K.C. Stark with the Medical Marijuana Business Academy. "Let's take what we learned from the medical branch and apply it to the responsible recreation."
A state task force assigned to write regulations about commercial pot sales in Colorado is scheduled to meet on Monday.
