Prisoner almost goes free, human error blamed

A mistake at the Pueblo County Jail nearly let a prisoner go free.

Cody Grosvenor, 19, was serving a sentence at the Pueblo Youth Offender System when he was sentenced to six months in the Pueblo County Jail on a harassment charge.  At the end of that sentence Wednesday afternoon he was given back his Corrections Department jumpsuit and was about to walk out the door when he told a deputy there had been a mistake.

And it was true, he needed to go back to the Department of Corrections for several more years.

Pueblo Sheriff Kirk Taylor blamed it on human error.  He said procedures have been changed and an internal investigation is bring conducted to see if anyone will be disciplined.

Grosvenor was sentenced to the Department of Corrections in January of last year and will not be eligible for parole until 2015.
