Pueblo County's Public Works Director may be out of a job. Greg Severance reportedly held the position for 12 years, but today commissioners voted to rewrite his job description.
Commissioners now want a civil engineer to run the department, which they believe will be more efficient for the county. "It's a cost saving measure," said Commissioner John Cordova. "A few months back, we learned 8 out 11 front range counties have civil engineers in their public works departments," he added.
Commissioners say Severance can stay on the job as interim until a new director is found.
"(Severance) was not let go by any means," said Cordova.
However, when asked if Severance would have a job in the county after his replacement is found, Cordova didn't have a clear answer. "Well discuss that at the appropriate time," said Cordova.
