Pueblo Police Chief issues apology over case

Pueblo's Police Chief apologizes for the release of a suspect, accused of sexually assaulting children. Three kids were allegedly sexually assaulted and nearly abducted by a stranger. It happened last week on Abriendo Ave. in Pueblo.

Police let the suspect, Wayne Arrona, walk away with only a summons. However, after outrage from the family, police later arrested him on two felonies.

"I don't think it's enough for the police to come away from these events simply saying oh, we'll do better next time," said Dr. Tim McGettigan, an alleged victim's father.

In an email to the family, Police Chief Luis Velez writes: "I am sorry for what has transpired but we will ensure a diligent and thorough investigation and then make sure that we treat this case as a learning experience."

Police administrators are still conducting an internal investigation into the actions of the responding officer.
