Back to school. For some, it means getting a new backpack.
Others, it means fresh school supplies.
But for many, it means getting a new look.
"I like to have a new hairstyle when I go back to school," Gabby Gonzales, a 2nd grade student said.
"I got a haircut!" Bryce Davis, a Kindergarten student said.
New Images Salon in Pueblo opened its doors on Monday... offering free haircuts for any students K-12 before they head back to school.
"Who doesn't like to feel pretty? Whether you're a boy or a girl, I mean who doesn't like to feel good and look good? My philosophy is the better you look, the better you feel," Peter Vansalisbury, New Images Salon Manager said.
It was an idea created by a manager who is also a dad... understanding the rising cost of school supplies.
"I have trouble affording those things myself as a parent and I work seven days a week and my wife works," Vansalisbury said.
For the Stiffler family... money is also tight.
"I'm raising four children, yes, of my daughters. So that made it difficult to do multiple haircuts so this is actually going to give us that extra money to put toward school supplies and school this year," Toni Stiffler, a Pueblo guardian of four kids said.
As a guardian of four kids, haircuts are more of a luxury.
"Normally we do them in the garage. This year, we got to go to a salon so this was really great for the kids and for the community," Stiffler said.
Salon managers tell us it's all about providing an extra boost of self-confidence for the kids.
"With the amount of peer pressure that's involved in school nowadays, I think it is so important. It really doesn't matter if it's grade school or if you're in high school," Vansalisbury said.
Helping kids focus on learning... rather than looks.
"I like reading, science and I like doing cool stuff at school," Gonzales said.
"I think it looks great!" Davis said.
Managers at New Images Salon tell us they had nearly 100 kids come through for free cuts today and they will be offering this service to kids all month long.
They are located at 228 S. McCulloch Blvd. in Pueblo West and you can reach them at 719-778-3738.
Families in Colorado Springs will find the same service at the International Salon and Spa for kids ages 4-18.
They offering the free back to school haircuts Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. the whole month of August.
