Pueblo Sheriff closes fireworks business, charges pending

Deputies with the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office have closed the Big Top Fireworks at 1400 Santa Fe Dr. after investigators observed illegal and legal fireworks being sold at the location despite a county wide fire ban.

According to Deputy Laurie Kilpatrick, a public information officer, the business is sealed until investigators can obtain a search warrant. The Sheriff's Office is working with the Tenth Judicial District Attorney's Office on possible misdemeanor charges.

News 5 interviewed John Musso, the owner of Big Top Fireworks, on June 19 and discovered that he and another 274 fireworks stands were licensed by the state to sell fireworks despite a statewide ban preventing consumers from lighting them.

Pueblo County Sheriff Kirk Taylor initiated a Stage II fire ban prohibiting the sale of fireworks on June 25.
