Pueblo softball team wins state championship

PUEBLO - Don't let their name fool you; the Pueblo Missfits are the best little league girls softball team in the state. The middle schoolers were undefeated in 14 games of summer play. Over the weekend, they swept teams from northern and western Colorado to claim the 12 and Under Fast Pitch State Championships.

They're heading to a regional tournament in Waco, Texas on Friday. Head coach Adam Vigil says the bond between the girls has never been stronger.

"We're a bunch of girls who've been playing together for about four or five years now," Vigil said. "We have a few new girls, but they're all real good friends, really close friends. So, we gel, we gel together."

But the girls may not be able to afford the trip. They're currently looking for donors to help them pay the $3,500 needed to charter a bus to Waco. An account has been opened an Minnequa Works Credit Union to help defray the cost.
