Haaff Elementary students were entertained--and a few frightened, when a 7-foot tall life-like Tyrannosaurus Rex stomped through their gymnasium Thursday. The special visit was a preview to the Walking with Dinosaurs production which comes to the Wold Arena in Colorado Springs next month.
The T-Rex is a dinosaur costume worn and operated by a person. "People are so surprised at how realistic the dinosaurs look," said Matthew Rimmer, a spokesperson for Walking with Dinosaurs. "It's a combination of puppetry and technology and story telling--but (people) never really fully expect for them to be this real," he added.
The T-Rex is one of 17 life-sized dinosaurs that will perform in the production. The largest dinosaur measures 36 feet tall and 56 feet long.
Walking with Dinosaurs will perform at the World Arena in Colorado Springs January 21 through January 24. Tickets are now on sale.
