EL PASO COUNTY - The El Paso County Clerk and Recorder's Office approved two petitions today to recall members of the Woodmen Hills Metropolitan District Board of Directors. Recall organizers intend to remove board members Janice Pizzi and Bryan Mendiola. They will have until June 8 to gather the necessary number of signatures from eligible electors in the district to warrant the special election.
Mrs. Pizzi and Mr. Mendiola are the only members of the five person board who hold seats not up for re-election this May. Pizzi survived a previous recall attempt in 2010.
Clerk and Recorder Wayne Williams said in a news release that should the recall organizers gather enough signatures, an election would be held later this summer or early in the fall.
"Should this recall election proceed, I am confident that our office will administer this election as we have many others - with the highest degree of efficiency and professionalism," Williams said.
Six candidates have joined the race for the remaining three seats on the board in the May 6 election. They are Lynne Bliss, Francisco Gonzales, Steven Kreps, Carl Lukins, Ronald Pace and Walter Porter.
Pace submitted the recall petition forms on behalf of committee members Amy Schmidt, Nicole Dillon and Christine Jenkins.
