Recovery teams use sonar equipped boat in search effort

State parks rangers and local law enforcement agencies have launched a boat equipped with side-scanning sonar in their search for a missing man at Eleven Mile Reservoir who is believed to be former Colorado Springs mayoral candidate Mitch Christiansen.

The body of Christiansen's wife, Susan, was seen floating near a boat close to the North Shore boat ramp on Sunday. Park manager Kevin Tobey says the recovery team will begin their search in the area where the boat was last seen and then gradually increase the size of the search zone.

Tobey says the sonar equipment on board, which allows them to see the bottom of the reservoir, will help them determine where to send in dive teams. "Our hearts and prayers are certainly with the family," Tobey said. "We want to resolve this quickly for their benefit as well." A statement issued by Park County Coroner David Kintz Jr. early Monday morning says that the Christiansen family indicated that Mitch and Susan would have been boating together.
