Colorado amateur athletes of all ages and skill levels can register now to compete in the 2012 Rocky Mountain State Games in Colorado Springs.

The Rocky Mountain State Games is a multi-sport festival for Colorado citizens of all ages and athletic abilities including physically disabled, visually impaired and Paralympic athletes. Recognized by the National Congress of State Games, a member of the United States Olympic Committee, the 2012 Rocky Mountain State Games will be held July 20-22 & 27-29, in Colorado Springs.
Organized and managed by the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation, the 2012 RMSG will offer competition in 34 sports. Competition will take place along the Front Range with venues including the U.S. Olympic Training Center, U.S. Air Force Academy, Memorial Park, Fort Carson, Colorado College and other venues in Colorado Springs.
The Rocky Mountain State Games will feature an Opening Celebration, on Friday, July 27, in conjunction with the City of Colorado Springs and the United States Olympic Committee, in downtown Colorado Springs. This festival will kick off Rocky Mountain State Games weekend and will celebrate the 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony from London. Come take part in a city wide event, equipped with live entertainment, interactive booths, food, a live feed of the 2012 London Olympic Opening Ceremony and much more!
This celebration will also feature an Olympian who will address the crowd before lighting the Rocky Mountain State Games cauldron. Past Rocky Mountain State Games Olympians include: Steve Holcomb (bobsled), Rulon Gardner (wrestling), Michelle Kwan(figure skating), Apolo Ohno (short track speedskating), Derek Parra (speedskating), Rachael Flatt (figure skating) and Henry Cejudo (wrestling).
Friday, July 27 - Opening Celebration
4:30 p.m. - Pre-Celebration staging begins at America The Beautiful Park
4:45 p.m. - Athletes gather for the Parade of Athletes (will parade into downtown Colorado Springs, with CSPD Escorts)
5:00 p.m. - Parade of Athletes from America The Beautiful Park to the corner of Colorado Ave. & Tejon St.
5:30 p.m. - Downtown festival celebrating the Rocky Mountain State Games and the 2012 Olympic Games, Downtown Colorado Springs

The State Games concept was developed in New York in 1978 with the Empire State Games. Annually, more than 400,000 athletes compete in State Games nationwide. State Games feature various sports from the Olympic and Pan American Games programs as well as sports with regional popularity in each state.
