WASHINGTON D.C.- It's a disturbing trend. The Department of Defense says reports of sexual assaults in the military are up.
The D.O.D. says it received more than 3,500 reports of sexual assault in the first nine months of this year. That's up 46% from the previous year. The complaints range from "unwanted touching" to "rape".
All four branches of the military and the national guard all reported increases.
The D.O.D. believes more victims are feeling confident enough in their response and support system to actually report it, which could be considered a big step forward.
