Rescue of woman on Longs Peak takes 15 hours

University of Colorado-Boulder student who slid about 200 feet down an icy slope on Longs Peak spent 15 hours on the mountain as rangers and rescuers worked to safely get her out.

Rocky Mountain National Park officials say 20-year-old Rebecca Stubbs never lost consciousness Saturday when she suffered multiple injuries after slipping on a trail that leads to Chasm Lake.

Park spokesman Larry Frederick says rangers reached the woman within two hours of a call for help at 8 a.m. Saturday. Rescuers spent nearly seven hours setting up a system of ropes to lift her up to the trail and another six hours to carry her out.

Frederick says Stubbs is from Massachusetts. A hometown was not immediately available.
