Riverwalk drained once again

It's time once again to drain the Riverwalk in Pueblo.

It happens once a year to clean out the bottom of the channel.

This time they choose to do it in January when less people visit due to weather, but they do still invite you to come down to the Riverwalk to walk and enjoy the businesses.

"We get sediment that comes in through the Arkansas River down into the channel," said Lynn Clark of the HARP Authority. "It settles at the bottom of the channel, and we've got to clean it out. We get an accumulation of mud and lake weed and it kind of inhibits the boat traffic."

Cleaning takes about four to five weeks.

Plus, they have to make sure all creatures, like fish and turtles, are safely returned to the river.

Also during this time they will be installing bronze animal sculptures in the Zebulon Pike Interpretive Display area.
