Colorado Springs, CO - On Wednesday, shortly after 4:30pm, Colorado Springs police officers were dispatched to a business in the 2800 block of E. Platte Avenue for a robbery with a weapon call for service. An adult male entered the business and demanded money, while indicating he possibly had a gun in his pocket. The suspect fled the business with an undetermined amount of money. A witness from a nearby business followed the robbery suspect to the area of Tia Juana Street and E. Bijou Street. The citizen then held the suspect at gunpoint until patrol units arrived to take the suspect into custody. When the suspect continued to advance on an officer, yelling for the officer to shoot him, a taser was deployed. The suspect was then taken into custody without further incident.
The suspect taken into custody was identified as 50-year-old Michael Bass. Mr. Bass was transported to a local hospital, after informing officers he had consumed several harmful substances prior to the robbery. Mr. Bass will be transported to the Criminal Justice Center and booked in for the felony charge of Aggravated Robbery, when he is released from the hospital.
