Rocky Mountain State Games going strong

The Rocky Mountain State Games are back in Colorado Springs starting this weekend and it looks like turn-out will be strong despite the economy. For the first time, this year there are two weekends of play. The number of events this year is at 34, with several new additions including rugby.

The number of people all ready signed up is 20-percent ahead of last year, so the total number of participants should meet or exceed goals. "This is a seven or eight-million dollar shot of economic impact, says Mike Moran with Colorado Springs Sports Corporation, "7-thousand athletes, there's 115 cities in the state, or towns that send athletes here."

Next weekend the majority of events happen, including the big welcome ceremonies. American Idol winner Taylor Hicks is scheduled to entertain the crowd.
