RV parks take precautions for campers

MANITOU SPRINGS - Local RV parks with land along Fountain Creek took precautions with the rising stream. The owner of the Pikes Peak RV in Manitou Springs tells News 5 he got a reverse 911 call alerting him of the flash flood warning.

Staff members immediately went door-to-door alerting each camper of the flood risk. The campsite has an evacuation plan to divert all of their campers to the Manitou Springs High School in the event of a flash flood.

Most campers to drive their personal vehicles out of the park and left their campers and trailers. The park has 58 spaces was booked full Monday night.

Closer to City Hall, the storm caught many people by surprise including Mick and Crystal Anderson who just moved here from Phoenix.

"We just moved here Saturday, we came in at 3:00 a.m.," Mick said. "So, this is all new. We came up to see our son and our grandson and now were here."

Public works employees for the City of Manitou Springs could also be seen near looking over the bridges and other infrastructure along Fountain Creek.
