Xeriscape, pronounced 'zeera-scape,' not 'zero-scape,' certainly ensures that there is no shortage of landscaping options to choose from, nor does it mean you only have cacti to choose from.
You can make a garden containing flowering plants or incorporate green-type plants in your outdoor oasis.
Not matter your choice of plants or flowers, when you xeriscape, you will save money on your watering bill.
"If people really employ all seven of xeriscape principles of xeriscape, they can save anywhere from twenty to maybe even up to seventy percent off a typical water bill," says Colorado Springs Utilities conservation specialist, Catherine Moravec.
Colorado Springs Utilities offers free classes to the community to learn about this type of sustainable and low-maintenance form of landscaping.
They will walk you through the 1, 2 3's of xeriscape and will hold your hand through the entire process - from garden conception to execution.
If you missed today's class, don't fret. Utilities will offer another set of classes in June.
