Colorado State Troopers took a Grand Junction school bus driver in custody Tuesday for suspected drunk driving after he had dropped his students at Orchard Mesa Middle School.
Gary Williams, 54, is charged with Driving While Ability Impaired, 30 counts of Child Abuse and Failing to Drive in a Designated Lane.
According to the state patrol, a student on the bus sent a text message to her mother indicating that Williams was driving poorly and showed signs of alcohol consumption. The mother then reported the incident to the authorities.
Troopers observed the bus as it left the middle school then stopped Williams. He was given a chemical test and released with a summons.
Williams is a driver for First Student Inc., a private bus contractor who serves the Mesa County School District.
