Shaw ready to bring new style to Nuggets

DENVER (AP) - The Brian Shaw era with the Denver Nuggets will start on Tuesday as training camp opens.

The first-year head coach steps in for George Karl, who led the team to a franchise-record 57 wins last season only to be fired after a fourth straight flop in the first round of the playoffs.

Shaw believes he has the formula for Denver: Aggressive defense, reliance on a powerful center and solid execution in a half-court system.

Basically, the opposite of how things used to be done with the Nuggets, who favored speed more than structure.

This new brand of basketball is just fine with swift point guard Ty Lawson since the Nuggets' fast and free-flowing system clearly wasn't working come playoff time.
