A shooting suspect is dead following an exchange of gunfire with Pueblo police. Sergeant Eric Gonzales says is was the conclusion of a standoff that followed a shooting in which a 43-year-old man was shot in the chest and rushed to a hospital with serious injuries. The victim was last reported to be in intensive care. Gonzales tells News 5 that the suspect holed himself up in an apartment near Gaylord Avenue and Bay State Avenue, leading to a standoff with SWAT officers. "At one point, (the suspect) was seen with weapons, came to the door, there were some shots fired, and the suspect is now deceased," Gonzales said. The identities of the shooter and victim have not yet been released. It is standard protocol for officers involved in shootings to be placed on paid administrative leave while the incident is investigated.
