Sign of a new season: stadium to unveil new logo

A large new sign bearing the words "Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium" will be unveiled at the south entrance of the facility on Thursday, the opening day of the NFL season.

Members of the Denver Broncos, the Metropolitan Football Stadium District and Sports Authority take part in a news conference which starts at 10:00 a.m. to unveil the new banner and discuss additional planned improvements around the stadium.

The sign will mark the final chapter in an off season that has seen remarkable changes both inside and outside of the Denver Broncos organization. The team fired head coach Josh McDaniels in December after a miserable 3-9 start to his second season. In January, Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway joined the front office and helped to recruit head coach John Fox from Carolina.

The new management team drafted Texas A&M linebacker Vonn Miller in April with the second overall pick, the highest pick ever for the team. Early in August, tight end Shannon Sharpe joined Elway, Gary Zimmerman and Floyd Little in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Three weeks ago, the stadium district announced the 20 year $150 million naming rights deal that replaced Invesco with the name of the Colorado-based sporting goods giant.

Under the new partnership, Sports Authority and the Denver Broncos will announce the creation of Broncos Country Heroes, a public recognition program that will honor individuals who have made an impact on the lives of others.
