Sky Sox bounce back to beat River Cats

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Colorado Springs starter Esmil Rogers allowed two runs over 7.2 innings as the Sky Sox toppled Sacramento 5-3 on Wednesday night at Raley Field.

River Cats starter Clayton Mortensen allowed three runs (two earned) over 7.0 innings, and suffered a costly error by shortstop Steve Tolleson in the fifth inning. With one out and a runner on first base, Mortensen fielded a comebacker to the mound and threw to Tolleson in an attempt to turn the double play. However, the Tolleson couldn't field the catchable throw and the Sky Sox went on to score two runs in the inning. Sacramento lead-off hitter Corey Wimberly went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. The center fielder also stole his 41st base of the season, leaving him two behind the single-season franchise record of 43 set by Eric Patterson last season.

Colorado Springs' lead-off batter Eric Young Jr. went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three stolen bases.
