Sky Sox defeat Grizzlies 8-6 to complete sweep

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox defeated the Fresno Grizzlies 8-6 Monday afternoon, completing a four-game sweep in front of 3,415 fans at Security Service Field.

In a recurring theme throughout the series, the Sox used a big inning to overcome a late deficit. Trailing 3-1 entering the seventh, the Sox scored six runs, including a Grand Slam by Mike Paulk to take a 7-3 lead. Brad Emaus and Radames Nazario contributed an RBI double and single respectively in the inning to tie the game at 3-3 before Paulk's slam.

The Grizzlies would make it interesting with back-to-back home runs in the eighth to get within a run at 7-6. Bret Pill smacked a two-run shot and Travis Ishikawa followed with a solo blast, taking advantage of a strong breeze blowing out to left field off of relievers Edgmer Escalona and Rex Brothers.

Brad Emaus would supply the Sox with a bit of breathing room in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run to make it 8-6. He finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI on the day. Matt Miller picked up his fourth save of the season after pitching a perfect ninth to seal the victory for the Sox.

Alan Johnson (1-2, 6.31) took a no-decision for the Sox, allowing three runs on six hits while recording five strikeouts in 6.0 innings. Eric Stults (2-4, 6.00) picked up the win with a scoreless inning of relief. Shane Loux (2-7, 4.29) took the loss for Fresno who fell to 22-30 with the loss, while the Sox improved to 23-29 after their fourth-straight victory.

The Sox and Grizzlies will play four more games starting Tuesday in Fresno. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 PM MT.
