The familiar cry of "Play Ball" will be heard Thursday at Security Service Field in Colorado Springs. It's opening day for the Sky Sox.
The Colorado Springs Sky Sox, the AAA Affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, kick off a brand new season Thursday night and a cast of familiar faces return to the club along with some new guys.
One of the familiar faces is second baseman Eric Young Jr. Young spent much of last season with the Rockies before suffering a leg injury.
Young told News First 5's Jordan Mason he's happy to be back in Colorado Springs. "Any time you can step back on the field and play this kids game, you can't complain," said Young. "Regardless of where you're at, you just have to have fun with it."
One of the new guys is 25-year-old catcher Jordan Pacheco. He makes the jump from AA Tulsa and is one of the top prospects in the entire organization. It's only a matter of time before he's in the big leagues. "It's a great feeling," said Pacheco. "Being with a new group of guys is going to be fun. Obviously I miss the group of guys I was with last year, but these guys have experience with a bunch of big league time on this team."
The Sky Sox open the season against the Tucson Padres. First pitch is 6:05 p.m. Thursday at Security Service Field.
