Sky Sox pound Bees

Colorado Springs pounded out a season-high 27 hits, as the Sky Sox routed the Salt Lake Bees 22-8 on Wednesday afternoon. Colorado Springs jumped on starter Eddie McKiernan for eight runs in the first three innings to take an 8-0 lead. Salt Lake cut the deficit in half with four runs in the third on a two-run double by Doug Deeds and a two-run homer by Paul McAnulty, who also pitched a scoreless ninth inning. The Sky Sox would put the game away with a six-run sixth inning and seven more runs in the seventh, as all nine starters had at least one hit, one run scored and one run batted in.

McKiernan (0-1) took the loss, as he went two innings and allowed eight runs on 11 hits. Doug Deeds led the Bees with two doubles and two runs batted-in, while Efren Navarro and Drew Heid each chipped in with two hits. Cory Aldridge belted a three-run homer, but it wasn't enough in the Bees most lopsided loss of the season.
