Sky Sox win series finale over Tucson Padres 12-2

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox won the series finale with the Tucson Padres Sunday by a score of 12-2 in front of 3,568 fans at Security Service Field to earn a series split.

A five-run first inning would prove to be all the offense the Sky Sox would need. After Tucson took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, the Sox answered on RBI singles by Mike Jacobs, Cole Garner and Chris Nelson and a double by Alfredo Amezaga.

The Sox would tack on another run in the second on a Willy Taveras solo home run to push the lead to 6-1.

Garner, who finished 4-of-5 on the day, would pick up two more RBI on a fifth inning triple to make it 8-2 and a sixth inning single to push the lead to 9-2.

Charlie Blackmon tacked on his second home run of the year on a solo shot in the eighth to cap the scoring for the Sox.

Anthony Rizzo accounted for both of the Padres' runs with RBI singles in the first and third innings.

Sox starter Billy Buckner pitched four innings while allowing five hits and two runs, but was removed after the fourth due to a strict pitch limit. Bruce Billings (1-1, 8.10) picked up the win with two scoreless innings in relief of Buckner.

Padres starter Simon Castro (0-1, 18.00) took the loss, lasting four innings and surrendering nine hits, nine runs (eight earned) with three walks and two strikeouts.

With the win the Sky Sox move to 2-2 on the year, while the Padres fall to 2-2 with the loss.

Up next, the Sky Sox welcome the Reno Aces to Security Service for a four game set beginning Monday at 6:05 PM.
