SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Elizabeth Smart and her mother exchanged a smile as the court clerk announced the jury's decision: the man who kidnapped and raped her eight years ago was guilty.
Brian David Mitchell could face up to life in prison when he is sentenced.
He entered the courtroom singing a song about Christ's sacrifice on the cross. As the verdict was being read, he sat at the defense table singing with his hands before his chest, as if in prayer. He kept singing throughout the verdict.
The jury found the rambling street preacher guilty Friday of the 2002 kidnapping.
