** A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 6 PM for Fremont, Pueblo, Custer, Otero, Crowley, Bent, Prowers, and Baca counties. **
** A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 6 PM for the Wet Mountains, the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Huerfano, and Las Animas counties.**
Snow started early this morning across much of Southeastern Colorado. While Colorado Springs has seen SOME snow, most of the heavier snow has been south from near Pueblo to Trindad.
That Pueblo to Trinidad will be most favored for nearly-persistent snow, and it could become heavy at times. Snow will fall in Colorado Springs, though it will not be as heavy or as persistent today. South of Colorado Springs, many areas could see snow continue through 10-midnight tonight, then flurries will linger into Saturday morning.
Forecast Snow Totals:
Colorado Springs & El Paso County: 1-4"
Pueblo, Cañon City, La Junta, Lamer (Hwy 50 Corridor): 2-5"
Springfield & Baca County: 2-4"
Teller County: 3-7"
Wet Mountains (Rye, Beulah, Wetmore): 6-12"
Sagre de Cristo Mountains (including La Veta): 8-12"
Walsenburg to Trinidad: 5-9"
Eastern Las Animas County (including Kim): 3-6"
In addition to the snow, expect very cold temperatures. Highs will only be in the 20's. Wind chills will be in the teen's.
Remember to dress in layers, and leaving 20-30 minutes (or more) early so you can slow down will help ensure you reach your destinations safely.
