Snow has skiers and businesses anxious

Colorado's recent snow has caused headaches for some; blocking off roads and shutting down schools.

However, skiers and snowboarders aren't too upset; it's the snow they've been waiting for. The stores that keep them stocked up are happy to see it too.

"Definitely a big sigh of relief," says Rick Uhl, owner of The Ski Shop in Colorado Springs.

For folks in the ski business, it's a good thing to see flakes flying.

"With snowfall brings people wanting to go skiing; so absolutely, it helps us a lot," adds Jon Eigsti, a technician with Christy Sports in the Springs.

So far, business at Christy Sports has been a lot of fixing skis; scuffed up from rough terrain, but the powder should help with that.

"We've seen a little bit of an increase from this last snow storm," says Uhl at The Ski Shop.

Skiers like Thomas Eastwood are picking up supplies to get ready; the snowfall has him ready to go.

"A little lack on snow now, but it's starting to get more so it's ready to go," says Eastwood, but says it's disappointing compared to the season before.

"Last year was excellent, I mean there was so much snow," explains Eastwood.

Some of resorts had so much snow they stayed open late into the summer; like A-Basin, where they were skiing on the Fourth of July.

At The Ski Shop, it seems like some of that excitement held over into this season; helping sales while snow was low. A lot of people have been getting tune-ups, hoping for another long ski season.

"I am based on Mother Nature and the more snow she gives to us, the better we do. It's one of those tough things that we can't really monitor and we can't predict; we sit around and wait some years, and this seems to be one of those years," says Uhl.

Now that the snow is showing up, they're hoping it sticks around late into the spring.

Looking at some of the nearby mountains; Tuesday numbers have Breckenridge with three new inches of snow, Monarch has six.
