Family members in Colorado Springs are getting word that their Fort Carson soldier has received one of the Army's highest honors. Four soldiers, including Sgt. 1st Class John Hill of Fort Carson, were awarded the Silver Star.

General Stanley McChrystal pinned the award on Sgt. 1st Class Hill and the others, in Afghanistan Thursday.

News First 5 spoke to Hill's wife, Annalisa Hill, Friday afternoon. She says she spoke to her husband Thursday morning. Sgt. 1st Class Hill told her that he and others with the 4th B.C.T., 4th I.D., were awarded the Silver Star for their action in battle in early October. That was defending Combat Outpost Keating in Afghanistan. Eight Fort Carson soldiers were killed in that battle.

So far, Fort Carson is not releasing the names of the recipients, only confirming that 4 Silver Stars were awarded.
