DRAKE, Colo. (AP) - More than 20 Larimer County homeowners are being told they can rebuild their homes after September's flooding after they challenged federal and county officials who denied their permits.
Larimer County building official Eric Fried says confusion resulted following initial reviews by inspectors and those homeowners can now begin rebuilding. More than 50 homes are still being condemned because of significant damage and will have to be torn down.
The Fort Collins Coloradoan reports if the costs exceed 50 percent of a building's appraised value, it is declared substantially damaged and cannot be rebuilt.
Fried said some of the permits were improperly denied because figures to determine the amount of damage were incorrect.
