Southern Colorado snowpack above normal

Southern Colorado water managers got a boost Monday when the April snowpack measurement numbers were released--the Arkansas River basin is at 109-percent of normal. The Rio Grande and San Juan/Animas/Dolores basins are also above 100-percent of normal.

The new stats are no surprise in Pueblo, where the reservoir is filling up with snowmelt.

Colorado Springs also gets plenty of water from the Arkansas basin, as well as the Colorado River basin, which is suffering at just 76-percent.

Statewide, Colorado's snowpack is 88-percent of normal.

The snow survey was conducted by the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service.
