Space day planned at CSU-Pueblo

Colorado State University-Pueblo will offer a Space Exploration Seminar on Wednesday.

The seminar will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 26 in the Occhiato University Center with a variety of workshops and a keynote address by Former NASA Astronaut, Dr. Ronald Sega.  The seminar is offered at no charge, but reservations are required.

Workshops sessions include:

  • Nanotechnology: This workshop will provide an overview of how nanotechnology is changing the world and what impact it might have on future space exploration and humanity in general. Participants will witness hands-on examples of how nanotechnology is influencing our everyday lives.
  • Mars Colony: Explore questions like how do you create a life-sustaining culture on another planet and what factors do you need to consider when preparing to send humans to Mars. Learn about how the lessons we learn from space colonization can help solve many of our global problems today.
  • NASA Food Lab: Participants will take a close look at the science behind human nutrition and the efficient, effective, economical and healthy food that space travelers consume. The workshop will demonstrate how space exploration has led to ground breaking advances in human health and nutrition.
  • Preparing to Launch: The challenges and joys of engineering will be presented and what it takes for an aircraft or spacecraft's journey to be successful. The state of the aerospace field will be examined, how it has evolved through innovation and the trends of globalization and how that affects our travel opportunities.

  • Teaching Space in the Classroom: Project-based lessons help bring classroom management and curriculum in harmony. Learn ways to keep students focused while hitting crucial standards in every subject area. Examples of lessons and resources will be shared, demonstrating how space can be a bridge to crossing the disciplines.
