Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs is one of the hospitals in Colorado seeing a spike in the number of people showing up dangerously sick from using synthetic marijuana commonly called "spice". "After the last three weeks, roughly 40 patients have come through the Emergency Department, probably 41 because I'm seeing one right now," said Dr. Gregory Collins.
The Centers for Disease Control sent a team to Colorado investigating more than 75 people in the state sickened by the manufactured drug and another three people possibly dying. The federal team will join state health experts working to find the source of the spice.
