Springs native wins USA's first paralympic medal

SOCHI, RUSSIA - United States paralympians are off to a good start in the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games, led by a Colorado Springs native, that's no stranger to the podium.

Colorado Springs native Allison Jones, won bronze in the women's standing downhill competition on the first day of alpine skiing. This is Jones' eighth paralympic medal and her first downhill medal.

This is the second time Jones has claimed the first American medal of the Games, as she won the first Team USA medal of the London 2012 Paralympic Games in cycling.

Team USA also won medals in the sitting downhill competition.

Alana Nichols won the silver, while Laurie Stephens took home the bronze.
