A corrections officer at the federal penitentiary in Florence was stabbed in the back three times by a prisoner using a homemade shank. The officer was treated at a hospital for his injuries and released.
The attack happened around noon on Wednesday. The prisoner was quickly subdued by other corrections officers and placed in isolation.
The prisoner was behind bars for bank robbery and other crimes.
The stabbing occurred at a high security prison, not Supermax.
No names have been released.
