Standoff ends after 26 hours

DURANGO, Colo. (AP) - A standoff between a driver and police in southwestern Colorado has ended after 26 hours.

Fifty-nine-year-old Mark Trail was arrested in Pagosa Springs on Wednesday after police forced their way into the van where he had been holed up since being pulled over Tuesday morning.

Detective Scott Maxwell told The Durango Herald (bit.ly/NdcEYn) that Trail is accused of shooting a horse and had been due in court Tuesday. Maxwell said Trail was "angry about a lot of different things" and repeatedly said he was going to end his life.

When Trail was initially pulled over, police say he yelled and pointed a gun at the officer. The officer ran back to his vehicle and called for help. Officers surrounded the vehicle.

The standoff closed all Archuleta County schools on Wednesday.
