Standoff in Alabama ends after a week

Midland City, Alabama - After a week, a standoff in Alabama involving police and 65-year-old Jim Dykes finally ended.

Dykes allegedly shot a school bus driver then threatened the children riding the bus before taking a five-year-old boy as a hostage into a bunker. Negotiations between Dykes and the FBI were breaking down over the past 24 hours, so FBI stormed the bunker.

The young boy, Ethan, is reported to be safe. Officials say Dykes is dead. Details on how the standoff came to an end are still unknown.

The school bus driver, 66-year-old Charles Albert Poland Jr., was buried Sunday.
