The Rocky Mountain State Games are different by design. It features a lot of different sports, and a whole range of competitors. The result? Hundreds get to feel that championship moment that normally wouldn't get the chance.
Take Reid Watson for example. The 14-year-old skate boarder entered four events: Park, Vert, Street, and Bowl, winning all four. Without the state games, no one would get the chance to do what he did over the weekend.
"It helps a lot because it gives other kids a chance to start competing if they want to do that when they skate," says Watson. "And they can just do that in their hometown, at their own skate park. We can skate in our own sport, and have it in the state games."
The Rocky Mountain State Games continue this weekend in Colorado Springs.
