A grant from the state puts a segment of the Ute Pass Trail on the fast track for development. The trail is one of the priority projects on El Paso County's master plan.
There has been planning and negotiation on this for over a decade. Now the State Trails grant of nearly $120,000 has been awarded to the project. "It has to spend before a certain amount of time," said El Paso County Commissioner, Sallie Clark." It is money with a deadline for spending, so the project will be completed this year.
This portion is the third of four segments that will link up for a route going from Manitou Springs all the way to the Teller County line. Plans for the fourth leg have not been finalized.
