One of the most closely watched political polls in Colorado, the Rasmussen Poll, now shows independent Tom Tancredo in a statistical dead heat with democrat John Hickenlooper in the race for governor.

The poll released Friday shows Hickenlooper with 42% support from likely voters, while Tancredo has 38%. Since the poll has a margin of error of +/- 4 percentage points, the race is essentially considered even. Republican Dan Maes trails at 16%. Undecided: 6%.

A month ago, Hickenlooper was the solid leader.

Rasmussen will release its new poll on the senate race between Michael Bennet and Ken Buck on Saturday.
