The fire danger is still at elevated levels, but it is beginning to back off. That is especially true in the Plains. The danger for new fires to start is higher in higher elevations and a Red Flag Warning continues for the Wet Mountains and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains through the early evening.
Temperatures will be hot once again today, with highs near 90 (give or take a degree or two) for Colorado Springs and the rest of the Palmer Divide. Near-100-degree readings are expected along and south of the Arkansas Valley, especially in the Plains. Lower 90's are more likely in higher elevations near Cañon City.
Sun will shine today, and the wind could occasionally be gusty, though less brisk than in the past few days. Tomorrow and Thursday will warm before an upslope wind flow brings rain back into the forecast beginning Friday. The chance for rain will come with slightly cooler temperatures and higher humidity.
