String of water main breaks in Colorado Springs

Taps have gone dry more than once this week in a south Colorado Springs neighborhood. A water man off Cheyenne Meadow Road has broken more than once.

Utilities mangers say the pipe is 40 to 50 years old and turning water off then back on during repair work can be too much for an older water main. "It then puts pressure down to another segment or another portion of the pipe, said Colorado Springs Utilities Spokesman, Steve Berry, "and causes another leak or another breakage and that's what we saw here."
