Student faces felony charge for bringing pot brownie to school

COLORADO SPRINGS - A 14-year old student at Air Academy High School was taken into custody and released to his parents Wednesday after he allegedly brought a marijuana laced brownie to school.

He shared the dessert to a female classmate whom administrators say became violently ill and had to be taken to the hospital. According to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, the teen faces a charge of distribution of a controlled substance, a Class 5 Felony.

District spokesperson Nanette Anderson says the girl who became sick knew it was a marijuana brownie and wasn't tricked into eating it. No other students consumed the drug.

"We've been very careful to remind our students even before the election that this changes nothing for the students in our school district or in our school a.) because of their age and b.) because they're on school grounds," Anderson said.

District policy requires any student who distributes drugs on school grounds be expelled.
