Summer safety tips for pets

It is a time year when people and their pets are out and about. While that means fun for families and their four legged friends it also can mean trouble.

Experts say there are several things to watch out for. First as you get thirsty, so do your dogs remember to take an extra water bottle for them too.

The Humane Society says it's also time to make sure your pet is up to date with their shots for flea and tick season, and something you might not realize, the dirt you use for gardening could be toxic to dogs.

"Everyone is out doing their lawn and their gardening," says Stacey Candella. "You have to be careful that the products that you are using don't contain cocoa mulch which can be devastating to a dog."

Many dogs love to go for a drive, but it is important to remember that a hot car can kill a dog in minutes, even with window cracked. Even a short trip into the store can be deadly for your dog.
