GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - Police have a suspect in custody in an apparent robbery at a home in Orchard Mesa that involved the shooting of a man and another man being struck in the head with a pipe. One person died and another was seriously injured.

The Daily Sentinel reports that 20-year-old Jeremiah Carey is in custody on suspicion of aggravated
robbery and first-degree burglary. Mesa County sheriff's officials did not immediately release names of the dead or injured, or how the person killed died.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Lisa McCammon says the man living in the house had armed himself with a pipe and confronted three men outside early Friday when he was shot in the stomach. The resident managed to strike one of the men on the head with the pipe.
